Mass fights between women and some men at the Botanic Gardens in Belfast

Shocking footage shows a mass brawl between a woman and several men in the Botanic Gardens in Belfast. A woman who was injured when she intervened described the attacker as 'possessed'. Two videos show the brawl erupting, as a group of men appear to take punches from a woman who invites people in the park to fight her. The punch-ups then start including the men around her, who swing at each other. When a woman tries to call the police and another intervenes to help, the attacker ends up headbutting one and punching another in the neck. Police have arrested two people, with a 17-year-old girl charged with four counts of common assault.

The videos first appeared on Coleraine Freshers' Facebook page, with the comments: 'With all the good weather being about, it brings out the smickeritos and the smickeritas into Botanic Gardens... All because she missed signing on the bru!'

A 17-year-old female has been arrested and charged with four counts of assault. She will appear at youth court in Belfast on May 31.

A spokesman for Northern Ireland police said: 'A 17-year-old girl has been charged with four counts of common assault and is due to appear at Belfast Youth Court on 31 May.

As is usual procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.

'The charges follow an incident in Botanic Gardens area of south Belfast yesterday, Thursday May 4.

'A 25-year-old man arrested in connection with the same incident remains in custody at present.'
